<h3 style=”text-align: center;”>Why Performance Issues Are Often Leadership Issues</h3>
In my book <strong>Permanent Solutions</strong>, I argue that most performance issues are not personal failures but manifestations of deeper systemic flaws. Leaders who focus solely on technical errors miss the patterns, structures, and mental models that are truly responsible.
The SSX model invites leaders to stop treating the visible symptoms and instead dive into the interconnections. For instance, what appears to be “employee laziness” could actually be:

<li>A misaligned reward system</li>
<li>Lack of clarity in goals or priorities</li>
<li>Conflicting KPIs between departments</li>
</ul>
SSX helps leaders uncover what I call the <strong>Systemic Root Causes</strong>, which lie <em>three levels deeper</em> than traditional RCA (Root Cause Analysis). Instead of only asking “what failed,” SSX asks:
<ul>
<li>What in the system made this failure inevitable?</li>
<li>How are our own management structures contributing to recurring issues?</li>
<li>Where can we intervene to redesign the flow of decisions and actions?</li>
</ul>
This is the shift I call in my leadership books a move from <strong>Firefighting to Future-Building</strong>. By applying SSX, leaders don’t just solve problems—they redesign environments to prevent them from recurring in the first place.
